Youth Group Gospel Camp 2015
Presidents’ Day long weekend is coming up this year on February 16th, which of course is a school holiday. Are you wondering what activities you can arrange for your kids that weekend? Camping? Skiing? Studying? How about a Gospel Camp?
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (English Standard Version) So why not take this opportunity to let you kids learn more about God’s Word and have fun at the same time? The theme of our Gospel Camp this year is “The Wonder of the Word” with guest speaker Francis Chow from the Lighthouse Church in Torrance. It takes place from 5 pm February 13th (Friday) to approximately 3:30 pm February 16th (Monday). The kids will check-in and check-out at Chinese Community Church of South Bay (25420 Narbonne Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717) and then will be taken to Oak Glen Christian Conference Center (39364 Oak Glen Road, Yucaipa, CA 92399) by bus from the church. Oak Glen Christian Conference Center, located 5,200 feet up in the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains, is about a 2 hour drive from our church. It is surrounded by beautiful trees, cool mountain streams and a limitless supply of mountain-fresh air, with snow falling a few times a year. The cost of this Gospel Camp is $175 per person which covers transportation, meals and lodging. Deadline for registration is February 1, 2015. Scholarships are available for those who have financial need.
This Youth Group Gospel Camp is primarily for junior high and high school students. All junior high and high school students are welcome to join us – you don’t need to be a regular goer of our church to register. Activities include singing worship, inspiring messages from our speakers, small group discussions, free time and game time. Games offered include archery, basketball, volleyball, ping pong, foosball, and pain ball (well, actually it is paint ball. No, it does not hurt unless you get hit and you count the $20 you have to pay). Oh, bear watching is another game time activity.
And let’s hear what some of the Gospel Campers from last year (who obviously will be joining us again for the Gospel Camp this year) have to say about the Gospel Camp:
“I’ve been going to Gospel Camp for 2 years. It is a great way to get to know God and friends better. The activities there are great. My personal favorite is archery but there is also paintball. The small group discussions are fun and most of the leaders are great!” (from Stephanie T. – 7th Grader)
“Gospel Camp is a great way to be closer with God and with your friends. I really like being able to get away from school and live independently. I have been going to Gospel Camp for three years and I always look forward to it.” (from Chloe L. – 8th Grader)
“It’s a great way to get away from all of the distractions like school and stuff and just focus on the Lord.” (from Derek N. – 8th Grader)
