Operation Christmas Child was a Great Success and Lots of Fun!
It was an exciting evening as children and grown ups alike showed up at the Chinese Community Church of South Bay for their Youth Group and Children Program sponsored annual Operation Christmas Child (OCC) tonight. Matthew 25:40 says “…Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Our Lord commands us to care for the poor and in need and show our love to them as Jesus Christ showed his love for us. Tonight, over 100 people came with giving hearts to share the love of Christ with those around the world. When I asked the kids what they thought of this event, they answered as kids often do — simply and honestly. Stephanie was heard saying that she “had fun packing the box and knowing a child will get it that is less fortunate”. “I like giving stuff to children around the world in the name of the Lord” said Derek. “We’re here to give stuff to children because they don’t have stuff” said Chloe. Ashley said “I’m giving people stuff and helping my friends wrap boxes”. It’s such a simple concept — a shoebox filled with stuff. But what is stuff to us, is a life line to the one that receives it. As a mother myself, it is pure joy to see our children excited to give. Others share that sentiment. Hsi-Ping, mother of two said “We share our love with the less fortunate. Children need to know they are part of that. Helping people needs to be our responsibility and that’s what we are doing. “Everyone participated and had fun” said Pauline, mother of two. Melonie, a first time mother-to-be said “seeing the joy of giving was the best part of this event”. Since 1993, 94 million shoe boxes have been distributed to boys and girls in more than 100 countries by OCC. In addition, children learn about God’s love for them with many putting their trust in Jesus Christ. Thank you all that participated in OCC. We put together more than 50 boxes! We look forward to seeing you next year at OCC!
